Kevin Tighe once said of his former Emergency! partner, Randolph Mantooth, that if one were to seek a symbol for him, it should be a tree because in Randy are seen many of the same characteristics--solitary, nice, proud, sensitive and strong at the same time, and always growing. These same qualities can be used to describe an Indian and, in the veins of Randolph Mantooth born September 19, 1945, flows real Indian blood. If one were to look deep into his brown eyes, one would see his will to succeed in life by always moving forward. This has never meant forgetting his family, with whom he is very close, or seeking inner peace in nature. It is difficult to maintain a life in Hollywood while remaining true to oneself, yet Randolph Mantooth has shown that it can be done. After several appearances in different television programs, he was cast in the role of Johnny Gage in a new series, Emergency. This show was very successful in America, as well as running for some years in Germany under the title of "Notruf California". Because of his convincing portrayal of FF/PM John Gage, Randy earned many loyal and steadfast fans in both countries. Emergency had a run of 5 years, its final episode airing in September of 1977.
Following Emergency, Randy was offered the role of Lt. Mike Bender in "Operation Petticoat".
In this series he was able to show a different side of his acting ability. Guest parts
followed in episodes of "Baywatch", "Fantasy Island", "Battlestar Galactica", "Vegas",
"The Fall Guy", "Murder, She Wrote", "Charlie's Angels", "MacGyver", and more. Since
Emergency had been such a success, Hollywood wanted to produce a continuing saga, but
the actors had sworn to themselves that they would never allow something like this to happen.
Hollywood wanted Randy to continue in the role of Johnny Gage. Once in New York, Randy auditioned for and received the part of Clay Alden in the successful soap Loving, which was shown on Germany's SAT1 for a short time. In this role he was able to display the full range of his acting talent. Unfortunately, problems in his personal life forced his return to Los Angeles a couple of years later. He was able to work in another soap, General Hospital, as the villainous Richard Halifax. He portrayed this character for a brief period of time. However, Randy was under New York's spell and was also missed by his friends on "Loving". He returned to New York to take on the role of Alex Masters. Soon, Alex became a hero on "Loving" and when the decision was made to change the show, his character was retained. Until it was cancelled in March of 1997, Randy played Detective Alex Masters in "The City". Despite the early demise of "The City", Randy's career has continued going strong. In the summer of 1997, he made a guest appearance on "Diagnosis Murder" starring Dick Van Dyke. For this show, he was reunited with former Emergency! co-star, Robert Fuller. In America Randy has also been seen in episodes of J.A.G. and Walker, Texas Ranger. We hope that these will soon be shown on German television. |
